Nightwing and Superman

So I'm kind of spamming my blog tonight, sorry about that, but why hasn't anyone *looks at cereta* told me that during the Intergang/Soames storyline in Nightwing there was an Action Comics tie-in, i.e. Action Comics #771 (written by Chuck Dixon, pencils by Pascual Ferry, inks by Alvaro Lopez), with Nightwing coming to Metropolis and working with Superman? Thanks to cereta I really like the two together, and think we don't see them side by side nearly enough, or I just don't know about it, like I didn't know about this one.

Superman catches Nightwing because at first he thinks he's a suicide, but of course Nightwing is just being his usual airborne self, and then carries him in his arms (Nightwing: Now can you put me down before you start calling me "Lois"? -- Superman: Hm.), then they're on a stake-out together with Superman calling Nightwing a nickname, "'Wing", of course they also successfully beat up bad guys together, and at the end they promise each other to keep in touch. (Superman: "If Intergang has taken an interest in Blüdhaven you may need some heavy lifting." Nightwing: "I might take you up on that. Not sure what I could do in return." "Just keep me in the loop. This little episode would have slipped by me. I'm glad you're more trusting than your mentor." "He's got a more suspicious nature, Superman. And he's never taken the time to get to know you.") That made me feel all fuzzy, because really Batman and Superman have been working together for a long time, yet Nightwing claims he's gotten to know him better. *squee*

I mean, as far as I'm concerned, those two are just another shade of canon ANYWAY. But *Jesus*... *stare*

Yeah, they look really good together, don't they? And Superman just hovering next to Nightwing who sits comfortably on a ledge, sipping coffee, it almost domestic, in a superhero kind of way. And considering that Nightwing fantasized about Superman flying him down from the Eiffel Tower in canon... *g* when the two are together they have chemistry.

Yeah, and also Clark has been really important for Dick to become his own kind of hero, I mean, Dick picked the name "Nightwing" based on a Kryptonian legend that Superman told him after all (well at least in current continuity as explained in that story from Nightwing Secret Files, as I understand it the Nightwing name origin changed a bit, but my grasp of Teen Titans continuity isn't firm). The Kryptonian roots also might explain the garish yellow in the costume... *g*

And if you haven't already you should totally read cereta's Superman/Nightwing fic.

You know, if you consider the immense size of the cast of the DCU, fifty OTPs probably would be less percentage-wise than only one OTP in a series with a regular cast of ten or so. =)

Didn't Superman give some help to Nightwing when Nightwing's series was just getting started?

Well Superman is important for Nightwing's origin, that is in the Secret Files issue, and Superman was in Blüdhaven after the quake at the beginning of NML, helping Nightwing when people left Gotham and flocked into Blüdhaven, that was in Nightwing #30, and I think they run across each other in some of the DCU-wide x-overs. But they don't meet as often as they could... ;)

Unfortunately the speed at which I draw is glacial under the best of circumstances, and I don't really get ideas for pictures all that often. So I've only managed to produce four pieces of fan art so far:

Hm. Clearly you shouldn't stop if you're only "semi sort of converted"...

You should (re-)read the "A Darker Shade of Justice" Nightwing trade with your Superman/Nightwing slash goggles on, and then read some stories with that pairing. I mean, Dick so had a crush on Superman as a teenager. He slept with Superman magazine articles on his pillow in canon, you know? (see Legends of the DCU #6)
