just wondering...

If you play Wordle in another language besides English (that you speak well), do you find it harder? I have a harder time guessing in German than in English, where most often it just takes me four attempts to get it right. Is English more suited to the five letter limit maybe?

I just tried it for the first time in German and found it a lot harder for some reason, idk. (Maybe I just got used to the English one.)

There is a German version? Where?

I know this is an old post, but I was looking at your journal after our recent chat and couldn't resist replying to this one. I asked my wife, who did Wordle in 5 languages during her initial rush of enthusiasm, what she thought this morning, and she said:

- English is indeed easier than her native language, Portuguese.
- She stopped doing Portuguese because she got tired of being defeated in her native language.
- German she finds doable, but only because she uses a dictionary.
- French is okay despite her lack of fluency, because the French version of the game goes by different rules, like always giving you the first letter.
- Italian is the hardest (despite the fact that her Italian is better than her German or French), because there are just too many possibilities, and it comes down to luck whether you get the right one in time.

I myself do not play. ;)

Umlauts: It sounds like the creator chose to use the ASCII character set. While that does often make things easier when programming, by 2022 I would expect UTF-8 to be not *that* hard to support? I have not seen the source code, though.

When I discovered my wife was doing 5 languages, I teased her about trying Russian, and she was like, "Noooo, my Russian isn't good enough!"
