Every time I wonder whether the immigration authorities here could possibly act any more inhumane, inevitably a few weeks later I'll read another newspaper article proving that, yes, of course they can. Since the article is in German, it reports the case of a family whose father immigrated here with a false passport about 30 years ago, but the authorities only noticed 1998. Before they revoked his legal immigration status he always had a job, never committed any crimes, the children were both born here and go to school, and yet now the whole family, i.e. he and his wife and the 7 and 10 year old children, face deportation to Mali by mid-March. I mean, wtf?!

Darf ich fragen, wo du in Deutschland lebst? Ich bin naemlich von Mitte Mai bis Mitte Juni in Sachsen, falls du zufaellig irgendwo in der Naehe bist. :-)

Ich wohne in Hamburg. Also ziemlich weit entfernt von Sachsen, so etwa 480km von hier bis Dresden. Jedenfalls weit für hiesige Verhältnisse, nicht unbedingt auf der nordamerikanischen "subjektiven" Entfernungsskala, aber schliesslich ist das ganze Land hier insgesamt etwas kleiner als z.B. Montana (nur mit wohl etwa 100 mal mehr Einwohnern als Montana auf der Fläche ;)

Schade. Naja, ich dachte nur, es lohnt sich mal zu fragen. Ich bin naemlich "in real life" Germanistik-Dozentin, und bin fast jeden Sommer in D, um Feldforschung zu machen. Es waere doch ulkig gewesen, wenn ich das irgendwie mit etwas fan-artigem haette kombinieren koennen! Hamburg ist aber 'ne schoene Stadt. Bist du da an der Uni?

Dein Englisch ist uebrigens wirklich ganz toll. Ich haette nicht geahnt, dass du Deutsche bist, wenn du das nicht selber erwaehnt haettest. Hut ab!

Ja, ich studiere an der Uni Hamburg Physik und Geschichte der Naturwissenschaften, das letztere hauptsächlich weil man hier Physik als Hauptfach nicht mit Women's Studies or Queer Studies als Nebenfach kombinieren kann, und das obwohl es es Kurse zu feministischer Naturwissenschaftskritik usw. schon gibt.

Und Feldforschung? Da denke ich immer an Anthropologen und Indiana Jones und so (obwohl ich natürlich weiss, dass der Begriff viel mehr umfasst), vermutlich die Nebenwirkung von zu viel Zeit im TS fandom... ;)
