tv watching...

Since my f-list doesn't seem to have many Avatar the Last Airbender fans on it, I didn't see any mention that the third season was finally airing, and only noticed with a couple of days delay. Anyway I now watched 3x01, and am really glad it's back. The season opener seemed mostly about setting the stage, and recapping where we at, which was fine by me. Anyway, yay for Avatar being back!

I also watched the Heroes second season premiere, but I'm not really fannish about it in the sense that I read fanfic or discussion. I think that's because while I like the characters okay, I don't really have a favorite I could identify with, which is a prerequisite for me to feel fannish, even for ensemble shows. Besides the Heroes cast is so large that it is hard for me to really identify with anyone. I mean, in one sense it is cool that the universe isn't claustrophobic but I don't get as invested emotionally.

Anyway, about the season two premiere, I think it seems promising. Obviously I'm confused about all the plot threads that have been started, like that Nathan sees weird stuff in mirrors all of a sudden (he didn't merge with Nikki when I wasn't looking, did he?), the assassination threats with the weird symbol, and that Peter didn't explode after all but is amnesiac, and so on.

Though I guess it makes sense that Peter healed or was impervious, but then why doesn't Nathan know? Maybe he dropped him off pre-explosion to get away safely or something. As a random side note, wtf is up with the weird Irish? faux-Irish? accents of the thieves in the container scene? This tv Irish accent really grates on my nerves. Admittedly I've only been to Ireland once, and I didn't make note of any speech peculiarities, and it's not even that I care much about "authenticity", but I don't remember any prominent "nails on a chalkboard" feeling just from listening to Irish people talk, which unfortunately happened when I listened to these guys.

That Mohinder and Matt are now raising Molly together is awesome, and Molly's dreams are actually creepy to me. I also liked that Mohinder works with Mr. Bennet to bring down that organization, and that he giving seemingly crackpot lectures and further ruining his career has a purpose. Also, Mr. Bennet working in that copy shop was fun (and again a paper related cover job, heh), though obviously he has to work harder on following his own advice to remain inconspicuous. I was feeling rather "meh" about Claire and the evils of high school though. She has the worst luck to acquire a creepy stalker the very first day too.

I wasn't that attached to Hiro's father, but feel really bad for Ando, who now has to deal with assassination plots alone while Hiro is lost in 17th century Japan looking for his childhood heroes (or possibly making them, it seems to be his thing to organize and nudge these quests along).

I don't know yet what to make of the refugee siblings. I hope it'll become clear what her power is soon though, and why her brother controls it not she herself, because I couldn't tell from just the dead people. At first I thought that with all their talk about that mutant plague, and the people dropping dead in reaction to her, that maybe she's something like a Typhoid Mary and can pass it to regular humans, but it occurred to me that then she wouldn't be wanted for murder, so I guess it has to be some more obvious offensive power.

Finally, I've seen some people talk about that new show, Reaper, and they seemed entertained, but I've been wary of giving it a try because it's comedy, and my embarrassment squick often has problems with setups like this. For example I couldn't get into Psych when I watched the pilot and the first episode, because the whole premise was leading to situations that just made me cringe. So has anyone on my f-list watched it and could tell me whether the humor relies a lot on socially awkward situations/misunderstandings and such? If yes, there's not reason for me to even give it a try.

I love Avatar! Yeah, the first episode of this season was pretty much setting up the season's story arc. I really hope Zuko actually has a plan this time, I'm something of a Zuko-redemptionist, and Azula really has him placed to take the fall. Did you happen to see the Nickelodeon magazine with the comics? That's the only thing I didn't like, the new season skipping a month in time and having to find the magazine for the backstory.

Heroes was great, but I'm not sure I like them introducing so many new characters.

I didn't know about the magazine either until these turned up on scans daily. I'm just a watch-the-show/read fanfic fan, not really active in any of the fan communities for it.

There's a third comic dealing with the Earth King and his pet bear, but not really plot-heavy. Sokka tries to teach Bosco how wild bears survive, fishing, climbing trees, and so on, and the Earth King realizes he needs to learn about life outside the palace as much as his pet, so they leave to explore as humble travelers.
