Am I imagining that it's quieter than usual? Is everyone on vacation? Absconded to *hiss* Tumblr?

As for some totally random fannish commentary, why am I still not inured to the name smooshes, but still aghast anew in every fandom I acquire? (Meaning of course the smooshes Cherik and Charik I've been seeing around for Charles/Erik, just like last time around I was baffled at Mckick for Kirk/Spock/McCoy and cringing at Spirk.)

I've been basically offline for almost a month, only just got my internet connection working at home. (yay!)

Ugh. WHY the smooshing. It's so...13-year-old-girl. :b I just can't see it working with Charles and Erik.

Charik is ridiculous. Sounds like a brand of curry powder. LOL.

Yes, the vast majority of the smooshes sounds truly awful. I mean, Charik doesn't quite reach Snermione, but still!

And I saw the posts with your July itinerary, and felt exhausted just from merely following that schedule in my imagination!

It's the first time I've been at home for my Summer vacation, yet felt like I needed a vacation *from* my vacation! LOL. I guess that's what happens when a ton of relatives visit from abroad at the same time.

Actually, tomorrow I'm going to the beach for a couple days, this time *without* visitors to entertain. So it'll be nice and peaceful, just what I need. Glad to have posted my Merlin Big Bang stuff today, so now I can go relax a bit. :)

Late July/early August is always slow, as far as I've noticed, everywhere--my mailing lists, my archives, my journals, etc.

I know, but the current summer slump always seems worse that the previous summer slumps which have gotten vague in the memory. Obviously. *g*

Also I really think that adoption of Tumblr by fandom made a difference, because so much of the picture/squee posts now seems to be there (and I don't like that service nor its etiquette), and what used to be flashfic comm posts on my flist is now all buried in kinkmemes that are somewhat inconvenient to trawl, so even though I have acquired a fairly active new fandom that doesn't translate into as much journal posting.

Even if I didn't dislike Tumblr so much, I'm already crossposting across journals and I also use deviantArt for finding fanart, so need another social network/blogging platform like a hole in my head. DW really needs to get on to that picture hosting, preferably with a better interface than Scrapbook. I like picture posts, they just should happen right here where it's convenient for me. *grumble*

It's totally quieter. I think the LJ outages are part of it, and also people are on vacation and/or melting from the heat...

And you're not inured to it because ever fandom brings on the possibility for new and more horrible combinations. Cherik and Charik, yeesh. Magneto would kill you for less.

Here July here has been really too cool (after a spring that was too hot and dry). The last two days were a bit more pleasant, but I huddled with a blanket a lot, because I didn't want to turn my heat on (some days had 14C highs with nights around 10C). The weather is all out of whack with the climate extremes everywhere. I don't want to know what the food prices will be like next year when half the places have terrible harvests due to heat and drought, and the other half too cool and wet... :/

This sucks. It seems worse than a summer slump. I keep seeing Tumblr links, and I realize it's easier for pic spams and such, but I don't like it there. I mean, I've been name squatting since the service started, but you can't talk, and I loathe the reblogging etiquette that doesn't seem to care about attribution of anything when it comes to pictures. *sulks*

I loathe tumblr too. I think a few more people have taken up DW since the recent LJ attacks and might have...maybe not migrated but are spending time over there fiddling with building the dwricle and adding icons and such.

I'm active on both DW and LJ, with DW as my default, and there's a similar decline in activity there. I mean, I have been reading more people on DW than on LJ as people migrated, but combined it's still less.

Probably tumblr....with a few to twitter. I don't think G+ made much of an impression, everyone on my flist who got one canceled over the name issue.

I still consider LJ my default, but my DW's never been very active except during outages.
