It turns out that while Tumblr allows you to put a "/" in your tags, it still gives you a 404 error when you click on a tag of that type. WTF? That is just broken.

At first I thought it maybe just didn't work in the preview (when I start contemplate posting somewhere I always test my posts to not mess anything up), but it turned out it doesn't work in any Tumblr I found that uses / in its tags. And then I thought that maybe it was my browser, because I just couldn't believe they'd break their site like that, allowing the character but make the tags useless, but I tried in two browsers, and it was still broken. Then I was just flailing at Tumblr in incomprehension.

...as far as I can tell 'flailing at Tumblr in incomprehension' is, in fact, the default state for all users. *facedesk* The only think I like is the queue, and even that's kind of broken in some ways. *sighs*

Just now I'm trying to upload an image, and it just doesn't work. I can do a preview of the post and all is fine, but it just stalls when I click to create the actual post.

...gah, whaat? I haven't had that one. I've had the one where it refuses to upload an image by URL, but it doesn't work in the preview, then - the last image I uploaded shows up instead. Oo;; OH TUMBLR, WHY YOU SO BROKEN.

I solved it by switching to my regular Firefox from the Gnome browser I'd been using with Tumblr. I used that one in the first place because the hovering navigation images to follow and such in the upper right corner don't show in my FF (haven't yet upgraded to FF5 and apparently for 3.6 on LInux Tumblr is broken). So basically I have two browsers and each works with half the functionality. It's not exactly convenient.

Humans are herd animals, and it somehow gained enough momentum to perpetuate in a vicious cycle? I mean, I've actually been name-squatting there with a single rat photo since back in 2007 when the service just started. But there was little content there and it wasn't convenient. Now it's four years later and I'm back to trying to post, because other people do and there are pretty pictures. (going with my sheep icon, because I don't have a lemming one)
