ratcreature: RatCreature as Superman (superman)

Silver Age fun

I knew of course about super pets, but I had no idea that there was a Legion of Super-Pets, consisting of Krypto, Streaky the Super-Cat, Comet the Super-Horse, Beppo the Super-Monkey (who had been used by Jor-El for rocket testing)and Proty II, a weird something that seems to be able to change its shape and looks kind of like the cross between a goat, a blop and one of those Enterprise aliens with antennae. (I've just seen a picture with a caption so I'm not sure exactly who/what Proty II is.)

If you want to look at Krypto, Streaky, Comet, Beppo and Proty II, here's a picture of them taken from the DC Who's Who Vol. 13:

Well, I think there is a Comet, but no longer as a superhorse (I think during Silver Age it was a pet of pre-Crisis Supergirl) but as a centaur-like result of some experiment.

He's a biped with hooves, I think. Which is doubtless just as well, as they did carry over one of the more disturbing pre-Crisis elements of the character, namely the romantic attraction between him and Supergirl...

*goes hunting on net and digs out explanation of this character*

Comet "was originally a centaur named Biron who *wanted* to be human (because he was in love with Circe, who was apparently not as species-flexible as Kara would later be. :-) ) He prevented an evil wizard from poisoning Circe, and as a reward she gave Biron a potion that would make him all human. Except that the aforementioned evil wizard had tampered with her potions, and it made him all horse instead. As a consolation prize, she gave him "the super-powers of the gods" (which somehow turned out to be identical to the Kryptonian power set) plus immortality. Finally, an alien sorcerer later made it possible for him to become human when a comet was in the sky."

We all got that? :)

So it isn't actually as disturbing as it sounds, as he was probably an intelligent being (mind you, the question of whether the Super-Pets were sentient was a little tricky; they all acted like they were, but they were treated like...well, pets) and Kara only dated him in human form, unaware that he was actually her horse. (Unless I hear evidence to the contrary I am going to presume that dating is as far as they got, thank you. :)

Nonetheless, all of the above still translates to "Supergirl dated her horse." :) Kara always did have a thing for the weird romances, and this was one of those times. :)
