I have to say that I found this episode kind of icky. I mean, on the one hand the show openly acknowledged that ambitious women are seen differently than ambitious men, but still it proceeded to portray that female agent as not just kind of skeevy, what with enthusiastically naming the serial killer and presenting false evidence, but it punishes her for her ambition by being tortured in the end. And that was made worse by the voiceover blathering on about the "price" of ambitions at the end. I mean, wtf?

Seriously, I wish I had stopped watching right after I had my early small moment of squee when Reed was all enthusiastic about listening to Foundation audio books while on a road trip.

Seriously!!! I was just as annoyed by the throwaway comment giving credence to Dahmer that you'd avoid sociopathic sadistic serial killers if you took away pornography like hustler [!] plus the crossdressing bisexual...bad cliche much?

Yeah, that anti-porn thing annoyed me too. Not least since it has no basis in fact at all. I mean, afaik places with less restrictions on erotic torture porn do not actually have more disturbed serial killers. But I'm kind of used to that from the serial killer crime genre, this whole "escalating fantasies-slippery slope" crap argument. So I found the other things much worse.

(witness my appropriate violent fantasy icon--and yet somehow I still failed to hack anyone into pieces, and that despite actually drawing cartoons of teacher avatars meeting chainsaws as teenager, though admittedly in retrospect I do feel rather bad about having distributed them as stickers, since it must have been awful for the teacher, no matter how bad they were at their job, but still, no actual chainsaw massacre...)
