revising my internal "best of pairing smooshes" list...

Up to now I've thought that "Snermione" was the most unfortunate smooshed pairing name I've seen "in the wild" (i.e. used by someone unironically just to name the pairing rather than in posts mocking the most hilarious potential name combinations), but I think I may have to revise this in light of having just seen "Spirk" on a story search. I'm not completely sure what I object to in particular, except that calling it "Kock" would be as easy to pronounce, even funnier and comply with the traditional K/S order. Seriously though, "Spirk"?!?

Yeah. What is wrong with typing K/S? It has fewer letters!

Admittedly I'm biased against smooshes even in fandom that actually have a tradition of them, i.e. I'm not fond of typing Clex, McShep, Snarry, or Spuffy either, but okay. I'm adaptive. But this? *flail* I hope Trek is entrenched enough that this does not catch on.

I have no idea how common this variant is compared to other possibilities. I don't read a lot of Trek to begin with, so I really can't offer any insight into this. The others still might have a chance to become the most common smooshes!

The only potential benefit I can see to this is that it could distinguish Reboot from TOS. (Does Reboot have a TLA yet? I kind of don't want to call it Star Trek: REB. I guess one might call it JJA.)

But, seriously, Spirk is terrible. Maybe it was a joke?

I can live with some smooshes, they are shorter to type for some pairings after all, though I try to avoid them myself, but that is no excuse with the established name being K/S.

I can't figure out if Snermione is worse than Snupin (which I keep mistyping as "Snupid" ... oh dear). Actually, any pairing with Snape is pretty much doomed to create incredibly silly smoosh-names.

I think I'm finding "Spirk" worse, because "Spork" (just like "Kock") would have some built in irony, even when not used for outright mockery. Spirk lacks that. And I totally agree on the Snape smooshes, they all populate the top list rankings (rather like Eastern bloc athletes used to be in Olympics...), yet for some reason the "S" at the beginning seems to be a sound very popular for smooshes. Snapledore is another good example, that one kind of sounds like a really disgusting sports drink, IMO.
