I bought some RAM for my computer today, but of course it didn't go as planned. It's not that the RAM is simply not recognized, or is defect, that would be to easy. My computer boots, recognizes the memory in the RAM test, and it seems fine at first, but after a few minutes the system just crashes. Running programs will result in random "segmentation fault" and other fatal errors, soon afterwards the keyboard locks up, the system freezes, and nothing but turning the computer off will help. I tried switching slots for the new and the old module in the other configuration that the mainboard handbook allowed, but in that the computer doesn't even get through the boot, but stalls in the middle of the booting sequence (well after the RAM test though). That each time I put the RAM modules in or out I not only had to disconnect a gazillion of cables and open my computer, but also remove the graphics card, because the clips holding the RAM won't open with that card inside just worsened my mood further. Somehow this RAM just won't work with the rest of my system.
Now I have to go to the computer store, which I can do Monday at the earliest, explain the problem and hope that there is some solution. And I hope that they won't treat me like some inept moron. That store isn't too bad with technical problems (which is why I buy stuff there in the first place), but it still sucks. At first I thought this kind of treatment I sometimes get in computer shops might be a sexist thing, but my brother says he had similar problems.
I should have just bought some DVDs with the X-mas present money, instead of a piece of fucking non-functional hardware, which was nothing but hassle so far, and will be for some time to come.
