Turning on the wrong hotplate, while a wooden kitchen instrument lies on that plate, then leaving said kitchen without being aware of this fact, and being too engrossed in on-line reading to notice said circumstances until the situation very much resembles an indoor campfire is not a good idea. Okay, the wood wasn't quite burning, more smoldering, but the resulting amount of smoke was considerable. The lessons once again brought home through this:
- Don't leave wooden utensils on hotplates, especially not those you might turn on.
- To get rid of the smell of burning wood in an apartment is far harder than creating said smoke.
- It is ill-advised to light indoor campfires in areas where you also dry your clothes, since you'll have to wash them again to get rid of the smell.
- That thankfully the incinerating temperature of wood is quite high, so that even with considerable efforts it is quite hard to start a real fire with an electrical hotplate and a piece of wood without other flammable agents.
