ratcreature: RatCreature's toon avatar (Default)
I visited Krümel this afternoon, and he was somewhat lethargic after the operation (or maybe just sullen and disgruntled with me for leaving him there, and that's why he wasn't especially thrilled to see me...), but the operation went well. The vet actually managed to preserve Krümel's eye and just remove the infection, rather than having to remove the whole eye. They still want to monitor it for a bit longer for the aftercare, as it was rather delicate to help him keep his eye, and they were reluctant to make guarantees.

I actually wondered about this, not just because rat eyes are so small, but also because I remember from when they did stuff to my eye how carefully it was kept covered and medicated for quite some time afterwards and it's not like that kind of thing works for a rat. I mean, they didn't have anything over his eye, though he kept it close on his own, so I couldn't see. Then again, maybe a sewed closed eye-socket would have had its own problems.

Still they apparently saw a chance for Krümel to retain two eyes, so I'm happy they went for it, because I'm sure Krümel would like to keep his two eyes rather than just one if possible, and I hope that works out for him. Maybe all your good luck wishes for Krümel stuck. Anyway, for the aftercare he has to stay with the vet until tomorrow afternoon, and I hope things continue to go well, and I can take him home then.
