In order for my rats to run only in one room I put up a barrier in the doorway (there never has been a door in the frame) when they are outside, which has to be high enough that stepping over it is awkward or the rats could jump it easily, and I do it sideways with a hand on the door frame. Only just now I lost my balance for some reason, pivoted and fell backwards, landing on my ass and my head mostly.

On the bright side, at least I squished none of my rats, I'm not bleeding except for one abrasion on my left hand, and don't seem to have broken anything (most importantly not my neck while falling on some inconvenient edge). However, on the not so bright side both my head and my tailbone in particular hurt quite a bit already, and assume the rest of my back and shoulders will follow as soon as the bruises start to show, also probably the back of my right arm because that slammed into something on the way down. And while trying to grab something to break my fall I also tore down a curtain that was in that doorway, and damaged the key to my rat cage, which door was open and into which I also fell (probably that protruding key was what my arm hit), though at least the door still closes and locks properly with one of the other door keys and I haven't damaged my cage.
