ratcreature: RatCreature as memesheep. (memesheep)
All day yesterday there appeared these avatars on my f-list which were made with this generator, and frankly I think they look kind of crappy, and I don't even like manga-style. Yet in a fairly irrational response I started to feel like I missed some fun, so I checked out the generator, but I actually didn't have much fun playing, because really the choices don't fit at all with my virtual self-image. For one, the noses offered are all far too small. :D

When I tried whether my cartoon might lend itself towards a maga-style adaption however, the results were fairly horrible and slightly scary. You can judge for yourself:

(I can't draw worth crap in manga style, so I only did the head, no clothes or anything elaborate.)

Okay, so maybe flipping through Wizard's "How to Draw: Heroic Anatomy" while reading LJ discussions on feminism isn't the best idea. You just notice stuff more than usual. That said, I'd like to share this fun quote from Brian Bolland in his section on eyes:

"Slightly different principles apply to the female face. We assume automatically in the world of comics (unless otherwise instructed) that she's young and beautiful and wearing false eyelashes. Emphasizing the eyes in this way makes it easier to show them from a distance when you're having to draw a small figure."

Reading this, I realized that it's true of course, and that I have done this (especially the false eyelashes thing) when drawing female comic faces, whether human or anthropomorphic animals, without even thinking about it.
